A security convoy escorting foreign diplomats was targeted in a roadside attack on Sunday while returning from Swat and Malam Jabba. Fortunately, all diplomats have returned safely to Islamabad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
The attack occurred when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near a police vehicle, killing one police officer on duty. Three other officers sustained injuries in the blast. The Ministry extended its condolences to the family of the fallen officer and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
A spokesperson for the Ministry stressed that such acts of violence will not weaken Pakistan’s resolve to tackle terrorism and ensure the safety of its people and foreign visitors. “This tragic event will not alter our commitment to security and counterterrorism efforts,” the spokesperson said, reaffirming the country’s unwavering determination to uphold peace.
Diplomatic sources reported that the convoy, despite the harrowing attack, was not affected, and all personnel were escorted safely back to the capital. Pakistani authorities are actively investigating the incident and reinforcing security measures in the region to prevent further such attacks.
The attack has not only raised concerns regarding security in the area but has also highlighted the ongoing challenges faced in combating terrorism, even in regions frequented by foreign visitors.
