The World Squash Federation (WSF) has officially announced that Squash Australia (SqA) will host the upcoming 2026 WSF World Masters Championships. This event will mark the sixth occasion Australia has welcomed the World Masters, having previously hosted the men’s championship in 1979, women’s events in 1982 and 1990, and combined events in 1995 and 2001.

The World Masters is a biennial competition that allows squash players aged 35 and above to compete in various age categories for the coveted title of world champion. The recent championships held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, witnessed a record turnout of over 1,000 squash players from around the world.

Robert Donaghue, CEO of Squash Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming event: “Australia is a nation steeped in squash history. While we’ve hosted the World Masters five times between 1979 and 2001, it’s been over two decades since we last held this event, and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Donaghue noted that 60 Australians participated in this year’s World Masters in Amsterdam, with Geoff Davenport and Sue Hillier winning their respective titles. He added, “Every competitor thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of taking part in such an incredible festival of our sport. We expect 2026 to feature some fantastic action on the court, and we hope all visitors enjoy exploring our great country.”

Ron Smith, President of the Australian Masters Squash Association, also expressed excitement: “It’s going to be wonderful to welcome everyone to Australia for the World Masters in 2026. We are looking forward to collaborating with Squash Australia to deliver a memorable tournament.”

Zena Wooldridge, President of the WSF, highlighted Australia’s proven track record in hosting major squash events. “After successfully hosting the World Juniors two years ago, there is no doubt that SqA will excel again with the World Masters. It’s fantastic news for the sport that the World Masters is returning to Australia after more than 20 years.”
