Ayatollah Khamenei: We Distrust the Opposing Side in Oman Talks, But Trust Iran’s Capabilities
Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has expressed firm skepticism toward the intentions of the opposing parties in the Oman-mediated negotiations. However, he emphasized strong faith in the nation’s internal resources and resilience, urging authorities not to link national progress to external diplomatic outcomes.
The remarks were delivered during a high-level meeting in Tehran with members of the Iranian government, Parliament, judiciary, and other senior officials. The gathering marked the beginning of the new Iranian calendar year.
Oman Talks Not a Central Strategy, Says Khamenei
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the Oman-hosted negotiations as just one of the many duties managed by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He cautioned against overestimating their importance, saying, “We neither hold high hopes nor deep pessimism regarding these talks. However, our suspicion of the other side is significant.”
He stressed that the country’s vital decisions and economic policies must not hinge on diplomatic discussions alone.
Avoid Mistakes of the Past Nuclear Deal
The Supreme Leader warned policymakers to avoid repeating errors made during the nuclear agreement known as the JCPOA. “Back then, we made the mistake of tying national interests to progress in negotiations,” he said.
He added that investors must be assured of Iran’s internal stability, independent of foreign talks. “We must move forward with purpose, regardless of what happens at the negotiation table,” he asserted.
Push for Domestic Growth and Economic Security
Highlighting the need to strengthen Iran’s economic foundation, Ayatollah Khamenei called on the Ministry of Economy, Central Bank, and other relevant institutions to direct domestic capital into the productive sector. He said this would create job opportunities, stimulate growth, and attract international investors.
“Obstacles to economic activity must be removed, and investor security must be ensured,” he urged. “Once local investment advances, foreign interest will follow.”
While acknowledging that the removal of sanctions is outside Iran’s direct control, he affirmed that their failure can be orchestrated from within. “Neutralizing the impact of sanctions is within our reach. If we succeed, the damage from these restrictions can be minimized.”
Condemning Israel’s Atrocities in Gaza
In a powerful closing statement, Ayatollah Khamenei condemned the recent violent actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza, particularly targeting hospitals, journalists, emergency services, women, and children.
“These brutal acts are unprecedented and reveal the deep cruelty within the occupying Zionist regime,” he declared. “Although divine justice will take its course, this does not lessen the heavy responsibilities that rest on the shoulders of Muslim governments and nations.”
He called for greater unity and strategic coordination in the Islamic world, especially in political, economic, and humanitarian efforts to stand against global injustices.
