Azerbaijani MP banned from entering Russia for anti-Russian remarks
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Azerbaijani lawmaker Azer Badamov was barred from entering Russia on May 4 due to repeated Russophobic and anti-Russian statements, according to a source cited by TASS. The decision was made under Articles 26 and 27 of the Russian federal law governing entry and exit procedures.
Badamov, a member of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (National Assembly), has reportedly made public remarks deemed hostile to Russia, prompting the personal entry ban. However, officials clarified that the move targets Badamov specifically and does not impact broader Russian-Azerbaijani relations, which continue to be guided by a spirit of strategic partnership and alliance.
“Russia does not favor the use of stop-lists in dealings with friendly nations,” the source emphasized. “Similar measures have previously been taken by Azerbaijan, including a recent case involving Russian State Duma member Nikolay Valuyev.”
The official further stated that Moscow prefers such matters to be resolved through diplomatic engagement rather than through public discourse in the media.
