ISLAMABAD — The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad has inaugurated a five-day commemorative event titled “July Beyond Borders,” showcasing a compelling photography exhibition and documentary screening to honor the July-August Uprising of 2024, a landmark anti-discrimination movement in Bangladesh.

The event was formally opened by High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, who emphasized the historical importance of the mass uprising and paid tribute to the martyrs and student leaders whose courage sparked a nationwide movement for justice, equality, and democratic reform.

The High Commission premises were transformed with vibrant banners, posters, and festoons reflecting the themes of resistance, solidarity, and national unity. The program began with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a minute of silence to remember the lives lost during the uprising, as well as the victims of the Milestone School and College plane crash in Dhaka.

Attendees explored a curated display of archival posters, photographs, and documentaries chronicling the student-led protests and the public outcry that catalyzed a renewed national commitment to freedom from discrimination and systemic inequality.

A thought-provoking panel discussion was held on the sidelines of the exhibition, where scholars, diplomats, and community members reflected on the significance of the 2024 uprising.

“The anti-discrimination movement marked a turning point in Bangladesh’s democratic journey,” stated High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan. “This pivotal moment has given us the chance to modernize our state institutions and build a society based on justice and dignity.”

Speakers underscored the importance of sustaining the movement’s momentum and called for inclusive governance and societal reform. The conversation highlighted the role of youth activism, civic responsibility, and grassroots engagement in shaping modern Bangladesh.

Special prayers were offered for continued peace and progress in Bangladesh. Visitors praised the event for strengthening bilateral cultural ties and promoting cross-border understanding

The “July Beyond Borders” exhibition will remain open throughout the week, serving as a tribute to the resilience of the Bangladeshi people and a reminder of the ongoing journey toward a just, inclusive, and discrimination-free future.
