Bangladesh Protesters Burn Ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Family Home

Thousands of protesters in Bangladesh have set fire to the family home of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a night of violent demonstrations targeting her supporters and allies. The attack, which took place on Wednesday night in the capital, Dhaka, comes amid growing unrest following Hasina’s exile and a deepening political crisis.

The protesters, many armed with sticks and tools, stormed the historic Dhanmondi-32 residence of Hasina’s late father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding leader. The house, which had been converted into a museum, was partially demolished using an excavator and a crane. Images circulating on social media and local news outlets showed the structure reduced to rubble, with parts engulfed in flames.

The attack was triggered by Hasina’s planned online address to her supporters from exile in India. The former prime minister, who fled the country last August following a student-led uprising against her 15-year rule, delivered a defiant speech urging her followers to resist the interim government. Critics have accused Hasina of suppressing opposition voices during her tenure, which led to widespread unrest and calls for political change.

In addition to the attack on Hasina’s family home, reports indicate that homes and businesses belonging to Awami League supporters were also targeted overnight. The violence coincided with a broader movement dubbed the “Bulldozer Procession,” aimed at disrupting Hasina’s address and further challenging her political influence.

Authorities have yet to confirm any arrests, but security forces have been deployed to control the escalating tensions. The situation in Bangladesh remains volatile, with the interim government facing mounting pressure to restore order and address the grievances of protesters.
