
Bashar al-Assad Seeks Asylum in Russia After Leaving Syria

Bashar al-Assad, the ousted President of Syria, has reportedly arrived in Moscow with his family, where the Russian government has granted them political asylum, according to Russian state media.
Citing official sources, TASS and RIA Novosti reported on Sunday that Assad and his family were offered refuge on humanitarian grounds. “Bashar al-Assad and his family have landed in Moscow, and Russia has extended asylum to them,” an unnamed government official confirmed.
Assad fled Syria following reports of opposition fighters entering the capital, Damascus. Before leaving, he issued directives for a peaceful transfer of power, sources said.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed his departure but distanced itself from the negotiations. “Russia was not involved in the discussions leading to Bashar al-Assad’s decision to leave Syria,” a ministry statement read.
The ministry urged all parties to resolve political issues peacefully and avoid further violence. “We will continue dialogue with all Syrian factions to ensure stability during this critical period,” the statement added.
