Report by Syed Farzand Ali
The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) inaugurated a mesmerizing photo exhibition, ‘Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador’, showcasing the rich culture, landscapes, and technological marvels of Japan.
Curated by Farukh Amil, former Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, the exhibition features 40 carefully selected photographs, capturing the essence of Japan’s heritage and modernity. Amil, an accomplished diplomat-turned-photographer, has gained international recognition, earning the Grand Prix in Japan’s Ambassador’s Photo Exhibition competition.
The exhibition was formally opened by Hassan Nasir Jamy, Secretary of the National Heritage & Culture Division, alongside Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi. The event was also attended by PNCA Director General Ayoub Jamali and other esteemed guests.
A collaborative effort between the Embassy of Japan, the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP), and PNCA, the exhibition aims to foster cultural diplomacy and will be open to the public until February 19.
Ambassador Akamatsu commended Amil’s keen eye for detail, stating: “Each photograph reflects his deep understanding and appreciation of Japan’s culture. It is an honor to see my country through the perspective of someone who has embraced its beauty.”
He further emphasized the role of such exhibitions in bridging cultural gaps. “This exhibition deep-rooted between Japan and Pakistan. It reminds us that despite the distance, our cultures share values of tradition, innovation, and artistic expression.”
The exhibition offers Pakistani audiences a rare glimpse into Japan’s breathtaking scenery and dynamic society, underscoring the power of photography as a medium of cross-cultural connection.
