Bendigo Spirit Clinch Third WNBL Title with Dominant Win Over Townsville Fire
Bendigo Spirit secured their third Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) championship with a decisive victory over Townsville Fire in Game 2 of the Grand Final series. The commanding performance sealed the title in front of a roaring home crowd, marking a triumphant return to the league’s summit.
Bendigo Spirit dominated from the outset, showcasing superior defense and a relentless offensive attack. Star guard Maddie Garrick delivered an outstanding performance, leading the scoring with 23 points, while Anneli Maley controlled the boards with 15 rebounds. Their combined effort kept Townsville on the back foot throughout the game.
Despite a determined effort from Townsville Fire’s Steph Reid, who put up 18 points and six assists, the visitors struggled to match Bendigo’s intensity. Townsville’s offensive rhythm was disrupted by Spirit’s aggressive defense, forcing multiple turnovers that Bendigo capitalized on to maintain a comfortable lead.
This championship marks Bendigo Spirit’s first WNBL title since 2014, adding another chapter to the club’s growing legacy. Head coach Kennedy Kereama praised his team’s resilience and discipline, emphasizing their team-first mentality and defensive execution as key factors in the victory.
