BIE: Applications for Expo Riyadh 2030 Participation to Open in June

The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) has announced that official applications for participation in Expo Riyadh 2030 will open in June, following final approval from the BIE General Assembly.

Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary-General of the BIE, is currently in Riyadh to finalize the Kingdom’s Expo 2030 registration file, which will be submitted to BIE member states in March for executive committee review. The final endorsement is expected during the General Assembly in June, marking a critical milestone in Saudi Arabia’s preparation for the global event.

Expo Riyadh 2030 to Feature Advanced Augmented Reality Technologies

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat during his technical visit, Kerkentzes emphasized the significance of immersive experiences at World Expos. He highlighted the potential role of augmented reality (AR) in shaping Expo Riyadh 2030, setting a new benchmark for future Expos.

“Visitors are aspects of the virtual world that we cannot replicate in the physical realm,” Kerkentzes stated, expressing keen enthusiasm for the Saudi team’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge digital experiences.

Strategic Planning for Global Participation

Since Saudi Arabia secured the bid to host Expo 2030 a year and a half ago, the BIE has worked closely with the Saudi government, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, and the Expo organizing company to establish the official framework. This framework will allow countries worldwide to assess their participation and strategically plan their presence at the highly anticipated event.

Kerkentzes reaffirmed that this procedural step is critical to executing the original Expo 2030 vision, ensuring seamless coordination between participating nations and stakeholders.

Saudi Arabia to Issue Global Invitations Post-Approval

Once the BIE General Assembly grants its final approval in June, Saudi Arabia will be authorized to issue official invitations for countries to apply for participation in Expo Riyadh 2030.

As excitement builds for one of the most anticipated World Expos, Riyadh’s commitment to delivering an innovative, technology-driven event is expected to attract unprecedented global engagement.
