Boat Tragedy Near Libya Claims 16 Pakistani Lives, Several Missing

A boat accident off the Libyan coast has resulted in the deaths of at least 16 Pakistani nationals, with several others missing, according to the Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan. The Pakistani Embassy in Tripoli confirmed the recovery of 16 bodies, identified through Pakistani passports.

According to unconfirmed reports, 63 Pakistani nationals were on board the vessel. So far, 37 survivors have been accounted for, including:

  • 33 in police custody
  • One under medical treatment
  • Three in Tripoli under embassy care
  • 10 Pakistanis still missing

The deceased Pakistanis have been identified as residents of Kurram, Bajaur, Orakzai, and Peshawar districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

The Pakistani Embassy in Tripoli is working with Libyan authorities in Zawiya, where the incident took place. Embassy officials have visited hospitals and relevant institutions for updates and assistance.

Authorities continue efforts to locate the missing individuals and provide support to survivors. Further details will be released as investigations progress.
