Bodies of Six Pakistani Victims of Libya Boat Tragedy Arrive in Islamabad

The bodies of six Pakistani citizens who lost their lives in a tragic boat accident off the coast of Libya have arrived in Islamabad. The deceased will be transported to their respective hometowns for final rites.

According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, received the bodies at Islamabad International Airport. The victims include Masoor Hussain, Shoaib Ali, Abid Hussain, Shoaib Hussain, and Masaib Hussain from Parachinar, as well as Muhammad Ali Shah from Orakzai.

Background of the Tragedy

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously confirmed that at least 16 Pakistani nationals perished in the disaster. The boat, carrying 65 passengers, capsized near the port city of Zawiya, Libya. Out of 63 Pakistani passengers, only 16 fatalities have been verified, while 37 individuals were rescued—one of whom remains hospitalized and 33 are in police custody.

Reports indicate that approximately ten Pakistani citizens are still missing. The Pakistani embassy in Libya is providing assistance to the survivors, including three who have been transferred to Tripoli for further care.
