The British High Commission in Pakistan hosted a prestigious ceremony to recognize young climate storytellers as part of Commonwealth Day 2025 celebrations. The event highlighted the creativity and advocacy of Pakistan’s youth, who used art, film, and storytelling to shed light on climate challenges and solutions.

Empowering Youth Through the Art for Earth Competition

The ceremony honored the winners of the Art for Earth competition, a platform for young Pakistanis aged 13 to 24 to express their perspectives on climate change. Organized in partnership with the British Council, the competition received an overwhelming response, with over 550 submissions from across the country.

The participants showcased their talents in three key categories:

  • Climate and Innovation
  • Climate and Gender
  • Climate in My Community

The winners—Khadija Chaudhry, Rahma Muddassir, Gulshan Fatima, Haider Ali, Umaima Zia, and Rooha Arshad—were celebrated for their outstanding contributions to climate awareness through art and storytelling.

Speaking at the event, British High Commissioner Dr. Jane Marriott CMG OBE praised the young participants for their commitment to climate action:
“The creativity and vision of these young individuals are truly inspiring. Their powerful storytelling highlights the urgency of addressing climate change and showcases the vital role youth can play in shaping a sustainable future.”

One of the winners, Rooha Arshad (20), who was recognized in the Climate and Innovation category, emphasized the importance of individual responsibility:
“While technological advancements are crucial, real change begins with us. We must actively use sustainable resources and take responsibility for protecting our planet.”

The celebration of Commonwealth Day, observed annually on March 10 across 56 member states, underscores the importance of unity, sustainability, and global cooperation. This year’s theme, “Together We Thrive,” highlights the need for collective efforts to address pressing environmental and social challenges.
