Brussels Tech Lobby DIGITALEUROPE Suspends Huawei Amid Corruption Investigation
Brussels – DIGITALEUROPE, a leading tech trade association, has suspended Huawei’s membership following a corruption probe linked to the European Parliament. The move comes after Belgian prosecutors charged five individuals with alleged bribery and money laundering involving the Chinese tech giant.
The association clarified that the suspension is a precautionary measure and does not imply any assumption of guilt. DIGITALEUROPE emphasized its commitment to ethical business conduct and compliance with European laws.
Huawei, previously an active member, had its access to DIGITALEUROPE’s policy discussions already restricted before this action. References to the company have now been removed from the association’s official website.
Despite the suspension, Huawei maintains affiliations with several European think tanks and trade organizations, including BRUEGEL, Business Europe, and the European Internet Forum. The latest development raises concerns over Huawei’s role in EU policymaking and its future engagements within the region’s tech sector.
