Canadian Prime Minister Expected dissolve Parliament and call election this Sunday

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to dissolve Parliament and call for a federal election this Sunday, according to government sources. If confirmed, Canadians could head to the polls on April 28, setting the stage for a highly anticipated electoral showdown.

Carney took over as Liberal Party leader and prime minister in January following the resignation of Justin Trudeau, whose government was struggling in the polls. Initially trailing the Conservative Party under Pierre Poilievre, the Liberals have recently regained some ground, largely due to rising tensions with the United States.

A trade war between Canada and the U.S. has escalated, with President Donald Trump imposing 25% tariffs on Canadian imports and accusing Canada of fueling illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking. In response, Carney has championed retaliatory trade measures and vowed to strengthen economic ties with other international partners.

A former Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, Carney is an experienced economist but has never held elected office. His leadership will be tested in the upcoming election as he navigates Canada’s economic challenges, foreign policy tensions, and domestic political divisions.

Carney has firmly rejected Trump’s controversial remarks suggesting Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, stating: “America is not Canada.” His campaign is expected to focus on economic resilience, national sovereignty, and trade diversification as key issues leading up to the election.
