Casualties Rise in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza Residential Building
The death toll from an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza’s Shujaiya neighborhood has surged to 29 Palestinians, including children, as confirmed by local health officials. The attack, which occurred in the eastern part of Gaza City, has also left dozens injured, with emergency responders continuing their efforts to rescue people believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
The airstrike targeted a multi-story residential structure, causing significant damage not only to the building but also to surrounding homes. Authorities have confirmed that the number of casualties could rise further as recovery operations progress.
The Israeli military has stated that the strike was aimed at a senior Hamas figure believed to be involved in coordinating attacks from the Shujaiya region. In its statement, the military emphasized the steps taken to reduce civilian harm during the operation, though specific measures were not disclosed.
In addition to the fatalities from the airstrike in Shujaiya, health officials reported nine other deaths from separate Israeli airstrikes in various parts of Gaza. As a result, the total death toll for Wednesday has reached 38.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have yet to provide further comment on the mounting casualties in the region.
