Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian called on the Chinese and Indian militaries to strictly adhere to their recent agreements aimed at de-escalating tensions along their shared border. In his monthly briefing on Thursday, Wu emphasized the importance of reducing tensions and working to build mutual trust and exchanges between the two nations.
“We hope both sides can seize the current opportunity and foster new momentum in military-to-military relations,” Wu stated, stressing the ongoing progress in implementing the disengagement agreement that has helped alleviate a more than four-year-long standoff in the eastern Ladakh region.
Wu further expressed hope that both nations could engage in a “harmonious dance between the Chinese dragon and the Indian elephant,” symbolizing cooperative and balanced steps toward peace and stability.
The briefing also highlighted a recent positive meeting between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Vientiane, Laos. The two leaders discussed the implementation of the settlement reached between their countries last month, which aims to resolve the long-standing tensions in eastern Ladakh.
