China and Pakistan Expand Renewable Energy Partnership with Major Wind-Solar Projects
Report by Syed Farzand Ali
China and Pakistan have signed a strategic agreement to boost renewable energy production in Sindh, Pakistan. The deal, inked in Beijing on February 6, involves Mingyang Smart Energy Group Co., Ltd. and Sindh’s Energy Department, aiming to develop wind and solar power projects that will accelerate Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
Under the agreement, Mingyang Smart Energy will construct:
✅ A 350MW wind-solar hybrid power storage project
✅ A 75MW wind power project
Both projects are expected to be completed and operational within three years, according to China Economic Net (CEN).
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, who was on an official visit to China, and Zhang Qiying, President of Global Business Line and CTO of Mingyang Smart Energy. Officials from the Sindh Energy Department were also present as signatories to the agreement.
This agreement builds upon the long-standing energy partnership between China and Pakistan. Notably, in 2017, both countries launched their first Chinese-funded wind power project in Sindh, featuring 33 wind turbines from Mingyang Smart Energy. That project became a milestone in clean energy cooperation, creating:
🔹 Local job opportunities
🔹 Industrial growth in the wind power supply chain
🔹 Enhanced energy security for Pakistan
This latest initiative further cements China and Pakistan’s commitment to clean energy innovation, aligning with their shared green development objectives. As Pakistan continues to expand its renewable energy capacity, collaborations like these play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions, improving energy sustainability, and strengthening regional economic ties.
