China Rejects Trump’s Proposal for US Takeover of Gaza.
China has strongly opposed any forced transfer of Palestinians from Gaza, following a controversial proposal by former US President Donald Trump suggesting that the United States take control of the war-torn region.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, China’s Foreign Ministry urged all parties to seize the ongoing ceasefire as an opportunity to restore peace and revive a political solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, based on the two-state framework.
Trump’s Controversial Plan
Trump, during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, proposed an economic redevelopment of Gaza after the displacement of its Palestinian population. His remarks have sparked international outrage, with critics warning that such a move could amount to ethnic cleansing and violate international law.
Describing Gaza as a “demolition site,” Trump floated the idea of permanently relocating its more than two million residents to neighboring countries. However, this suggestion has been met with widespread opposition from Palestinian leaders, human rights organizations, and international allies.
China’s Position on Gaza’s Future
Beijing emphasized that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must be based on diplomatic efforts and mutual agreement, rather than unilateral actions. The Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated its support for a two-state solution, urging Washington and Tel Aviv to focus on a long-term, peaceful resolution rather than forced displacement.
International Backlash Against Forced Displacement
Trump’s remarks have drawn criticism from global leaders and human rights advocates, who warn that forcibly expelling Palestinians from Gaza could violate international law. Many nations, including China and several US allies, have cautioned that any attempt to relocate Gaza’s population by force would escalate regional tensions and deepen the humanitarian crisis.
The Palestinian Authority and Hamas have both rejected Trump’s proposal outright, calling it an attempt to erase Palestinian identity and undermine their right to self-determination.
