China has revealed its latest high-speed train innovation, the CR450 EMU (Electric Multiple Unit), at a grand unveiling in Beijing. Designed to revolutionize rail travel, the CR450 is set to achieve speeds of 400 kilometers per hour, positioning it as the fastest high-speed train globally.
During testing, the CR450 reached an impressive speed of 450 kilometers per hour, surpassing the operational speed of the current CR400 Fuxing trains, which operate at 350 kilometers per hour. Key performance upgrades include improved energy efficiency, reduced interior noise, and enhanced braking capabilities, setting new international standards for high-speed rail technology.
The train’s design includes a 22% reduction in operational resistance and a 10% lighter build compared to its predecessor, the CR400, enabling smoother and faster travel.
China State Railway Group Co., also known as China Railway, emphasized the CR450’s potential to significantly shorten travel times, improve connectivity, and enhance convenience for passengers.
“This innovation marks a leap forward in high-speed rail technology, strengthening China’s position as a global leader,” the company stated.
The CR450 project is part of China’s broader effort to advance railway innovation and achieve technological self-reliance. The initiative underscores the nation’s commitment to maintaining its leadership in the global high-speed rail industry.
China boasts the longest and most advanced high-speed rail network globally, spanning over 46,000 kilometers—more than 70% of the world’s total high-speed rail length.
With the CR450 set to redefine standards in speed, comfort, and efficiency, China continues to transform passenger rail travel on a global scale.
