China Warns the West Against Triggering Mechanism Against Iran
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has cautioned Western nations against activating the trigger mechanism against Iran, warning that such an action would undermine years of diplomatic efforts toward a nuclear agreement with Tehran.
During a trilateral meeting in Beijing with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib Abadi, Wang Yi proposed a five-point plan to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue through diplomatic and political channels.
All parties must work towards a comprehensive, long-term security vision and create a conducive environment for negotiations while avoiding escalatory measures.
Wang Yi emphasized maintaining a balance between rights and responsibilities, ensuring compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) while allowing peaceful use of nuclear energy.
He stressed that Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy must be acknowledged, and Iran should uphold its commitment to not developing nuclear weapons.
He urged all stakeholders to reach a new consensus within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and resume negotiations at the earliest.
The United States should demonstrate political responsibility and return to the negotiating table without delay.
Wang also opposed using the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a pressure tool against countries, warning that hasty interventions would only escalate tensions.
The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that activating the trigger mechanism could destroy years of diplomatic progress, urging all parties to handle the Iran nuclear issue with caution.
