China-Pakistan Collaboration to Accelerate Electric Vehicle Industry
Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (LAUNCH) and Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing to drive the development of Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) industry. This partnership marks a significant step toward advancing sustainable mobility and localizing EV production.
The agreement, witnessed by key dignitaries, including Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, and Commercial Councilor Ghulam Qadir, aims to introduce cutting-edge EV technology in Pakistan. Senior officials from LAUNCH and YDC, along with Science Councilor Khan Muhammad Wazir and YDC Director of Projects Idrees Gigi, played a crucial role in formalizing this collaboration.
Key Objectives of the Partnership
🔹 Development of a National EV for Pakistan – A locally assembled vehicle leveraging advanced technology.
🔹 Establishment of CKD Assembly Operations – Producing right-hand and left-hand drive battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for domestic and export markets.
🔹 Technology Innovation & Battery Management – Advancing research in EV batteries, lifecycle management, and sustainable recycling solutions.
🔹 Mass Production & Joint Ventures – Exploring large-scale EV manufacturing to meet growing market demands.
YDC’s Idrees Gigi emphasized the long-term impact of this partnership, stating, “This collaboration will redefine Pakistan’s EV landscape by promoting localized production and increasing accessibility to sustainable transportation solutions.”
A senior representative from LAUNCH echoed this sentiment, saying, “We are committed to bringing our global expertise in electric vehicles to Pakistan and supporting its transition towards a cleaner, more efficient mobility ecosystem.”
With growing demand for green energy solutions, this partnership aligns with Pakistan’s goal of reducing carbon emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and positioning itself as a key player in the EV industry.
