Chinese President Southeast Asia Tour to Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia Marks Strategic Diplomatic Engagement
Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to embark on his first international tour of 2025, with state visits to Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia, aiming to deepen China’s ties with key ASEAN countries and promote regional peace and cooperation.
The announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian during a press conference on Friday. Lin highlighted the tour as a vital step in strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic collaboration, and building a shared future with Southeast Asian nations.
Vietnam: Strengthening Socialist Ties and Regional Stability
President Xi will begin his diplomatic journey in Vietnam from April 14 to 15, at the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong. The visit includes high-level discussions with top Vietnamese leadership, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
China and Vietnam, both socialist states, share historical bonds and a commitment to reform and development. Lin underscored the importance of reinforcing the traditional relationship of “comrades and brothers”, increasing strategic trust, and fostering joint innovation.
Malaysia: Advancing Economic Synergy in the Asia-Pacific
Chinese President second stop will be Malaysia, 15 to 17 April, he will meet with King Sultan Ibrahim. Lin described the China-Malaysia relationship as one of “high-level development,” noting shared aspirations as emerging Asia-Pacific economies.
The visit aims to explore new avenues of cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and technology, further enhancing strategic alignment guided by visionary leadership from both nations.
Cambodia: Deepening Ironclad Friendship and Cooperation
Concluding the tour, President Xi will visit Cambodia from April 17 to 18, at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni. Lin praised the two nations’ enduring friendship, stating that the China-Cambodia partnership is entering a new era marked by high standards, mutual respect, and comprehensive cooperation.
Bilateral discussions will focus on boosting collaboration in defense, education, culture, and sustainable development, reinforcing their “ironclad” bond.
