ISLAMABAD – A high-level delegation from China’s GuoDong Group, led by its Founder and Chairman Lu Jie, has shown keen interest in investing in Pakistan’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and energy sectors, marking a promising step toward deepening China-Pakistan economic cooperation in the digital and sustainable energy domains.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, where Lu Jie met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

During the meeting, Lu Jie outlined GuoDong Group’s intent to invest in Pakistan’s digital infrastructure by supporting the development of:

  • Telecom towers
  • Data centers
  • Cloud computing systems

This aligns with Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital ecosystem under the Digital Nation Pakistan initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Beyond ICT, GuoDong Group also expressed interest in green energy and smart city innovations, including:

  • Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
  • Smart city technologies
  • Advanced material manufacturing

These proposals align with Pakistan’s vision to expand clean energy solutions, promote digital transformation, and build resilient urban infrastructure.

Minister Shaza Fatima welcomed the investment proposals, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating foreign investors, particularly in priority sectors like ICT and clean energy.

“We fully support strategic partnerships that align with our national digital vision,” she said. “We invite GuoDong Group to Pakistan for detailed discussions with local stakeholders and assure them of complete government backing.”

This collaborative spirit reinforces the ongoing Pakistan-China strategic alliance, particularly under the broader umbrella of CPEC Phase-II, which focuses on industrial cooperation, innovation, and technology transfer.
