COAS General Asim Munir Meets U.S. Congressional Delegation, Signs MoUs on IT Cooperation
Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir met with a high-level delegation from the United States Congress at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
The visiting delegation was led by Congressman Jack Bergman, accompanied by Congressman Thomas Suozzi and Congressman Jonathan Jackson. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with particular emphasis on regional security, defense collaboration, and technological training initiatives.
During the meeting, both sides reiterated the importance of sustained engagement based on mutual respect, shared values, and strategic interests. The discussions also highlighted the evolving nature of regional challenges and the need for deeper cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.
As part of the engagement, both parties signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing collaboration in the field of information technology. These agreements are expected to support knowledge exchange, skills development, and capacity building in Pakistan’s digital sector.
The U.S. lawmakers commended the Pakistan Army’s pivotal role in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged Pakistan’s continued efforts for regional peace and stability. They also praised the resilience of the Pakistani nation and recognized its strategic potential in South Asia.
The delegation reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to broad-based cooperation with Pakistan in key areas, including security, trade, investment, and economic development, while expressing strong respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty.
COAS General Asim Munir thanked the delegation for their visit and emphasized Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen and diversify its longstanding partnership with the United States. He stressed that this relationship must be grounded in mutual interests and respect for national sovereignty.
