
Congo Sentences 37 to Death Over Coup Attempt

The Democratic Republic of Congo has sentenced 37 individuals to death for their roles in a failed coup attempt against President Félix Tshisekedi. The court’s verdict, announced on Saturday, also acquitted 14 defendants.
The sentences include nationals from the United States, Belgium, England, and Canada. The failed coup, which took place on May 19, was successfully countered by Congolese security forces.
In the ensuing clashes in the Goma region of Kinshasa, several insurgents were killed. The trial, held in a military court, involved 51 accused individuals.
