There has been a major development in the bail applications of PTI founder Imran Khan in connection with eight cases from May 9. The court has delivered a reserved verdict on the bail applications, ruling to reject the bail requests in all eight cases.
The decision was announced by Administrative Judge Manzar Ali Gul, who heard the arguments from both the prosecution and Imran Khan’s defense lawyer. The cases involve various charges, including terrorism-related offenses, and stem from the violent events that occurred on May 9, 2024.
During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, presented his arguments, emphasizing that the reaction from the public following the PTI founder’s remarks was misinterpreted. He argued that over 240 cases had been filed against Imran Khan, with all types of charges levied against him, including those related to the controversial cipher case, which had even reached the Supreme Court.
Barrister Safdar also pointed out that in over 30 cases, decisions had been made in favor of Imran Khan, and the majority of the complainants in these cases were police officers. He described the government’s shifting narrative regarding the conspiracy allegations, claiming that various versions of the events had been put forward, making it difficult to substantiate any claims.
In his plea, Barrister Safdar refrained from requesting the discharge of the cases or their dismissal, acknowledging that the court could not grant such relief. Instead, he requested that his client, who had been in detention for a considerable period, be granted bail in these cases.
Despite the arguments presented, the court decided to reject the bail requests for all eight cases, marking a significant moment in the legal proceedings surrounding Imran Khan.
