Dalai Lama Announced that his successor will be born outside China
The Dalai Lama has confirmed that his successor will be born outside China, challenging Beijing’s long-standing claim over the Tibetan Buddhist leadership.
In his newly released book, Voice for the Voiceless, the 89-year-old spiritual leader emphasizes that his reincarnation will take place in a free country, ensuring the continuation of his spiritual mission and the Tibetan cause beyond his lifetime. This marks the first time he has explicitly ruled out China as the birthplace of the next Dalai Lama.
He underscores that the essence of his reincarnation is to carry forward his teachings, advocating for universal compassion, Tibetan identity, and religious freedom. His decision is seen as a direct counter to China’s assertion that it holds the right to appoint his successor.
The Chinese government has repeatedly dismissed the Dalai Lama’s authority over his own succession, insisting that Beijing will oversee the selection process. However, Tibetan exiles and supporters view this as an attempt to control Tibetan Buddhism and diminish the spiritual leader’s influence.
This development is expected to further strain China-Tibet relations, while reinforcing global support for Tibetan autonomy and religious independence.
