Yemeni Houthi authorities have reported that the death toll from recent U.S. airstrikes on the Ras Isa oil terminal in Hodeidah province has surged to 80, with more than 150 others injured, in one of the deadliest incidents since Washington intensified its military operations in the region.

The strikes targeted critical infrastructure linked to the Houthis, with U.S. Central Command stating the operation was meant to “degrade the group’s economic lifelines.” Officials emphasized that the attacks were not directed at civilians but at facilities allegedly used to fund the Houthis’ military activities.

“The goal of this precision strike was to weaken the Houthis’ economic capabilities that contribute to regional instability,” CENTCOM said in a statement. “Our focus remains on protecting freedom of navigation and deterring further aggression.”

Footage aired by Al-Masirah, a Houthi-controlled media outlet, showed massive flames and black smoke billowing from the port. Scenes from nearby hospitals revealed overwhelmed medical staff treating numerous injured individuals, many suffering from burns and blast wounds.

Eyewitnesses of the strike. “There were multiple explosions. People were screaming and running as everything went up in flames,” said one survivor being treated for injuries.

Since mid-March, the United States has carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi missile depots, drone launch sites, and economic hubs. The campaign comes in response to repeated Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and missile launches aimed at Israel, actions the group claims are in solidarity with Gaza.

Despite the military pressure, Houthi forces continue their offensives. On Friday morning, Israel’s military reported intercepting a missile fired from Yemen, with no casualties reported.

The humanitarian toll of the strikes continues to mount. Houthi officials allege that since March 15, U.S. airstrikes have killed at least 123 civilians and injured 247. These figures remain unverified by independent sources, but humanitarian agencies have raised concerns over worsening conditions in affected areas.

Calls are growing for renewed diplomatic engagement to de-escalate tensions and prevent further civilian harm in Yemen’s already fragile landscape.
