Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
KUWAIT– The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) has officially reappointed Deemah AlYahya as Secretary-General for a second four-year term, following a nomination by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and unanimous approval by member states during a virtual council session hosted in Kuwait.
The decision underscores AlYahya’s pivotal role in expanding and strengthening the organization. Since assuming office, she has led the DCO from its original five founding members to a robust alliance of 16 nations, establishing the DCO as a key multilateral platform driving global digital collaboration.
With her reappointment, AlYahya is set to advance the DCO’s 2025–2029 strategic agenda, which was unveiled during the organization’s fourth annual general assembly in February. The agenda emphasizes:
- Boosting the resilience of digital economies
- Promoting social prosperity through enhanced digital maturity
- Facilitating inclusive digital transformation across member states
Omar Al-Omar, Kuwaiti Minister of State for Communication Affairs and chairman of the current DCO council session, congratulated AlYahya on behalf of the council. He praised her visionary leadership and expressed confidence in her continued success.
Under AlYahya’s stewardship, the DCO has championed efforts to bridge digital divides, align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and support digital policy-making, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment across diverse economies.
