ISLAMABAD – Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jakob Linulf, has emphasized the critical need for global collaboration to help countries like Pakistan overcome intensifying climate challenges. Speaking at a signing ceremony in Islamabad, the ambassador highlighted that international support must be coupled with localized resilience strategies to drive meaningful climate adaptation.
The event marked the formal launch of a pivotal partnership between the Embassy of Denmark and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement will steer a high-impact initiative aimed at mainstreaming climate change into Pakistan’s economic and fiscal planning frameworks, according to an official press release
Ambassador Linulf praised SDPI’s leadership in advancing Pakistan’s climate agenda and commended Denmark’s role in supporting the country’s energy transition. He highlighted how models like Denmark’s State of Green can be adapted to Pakistan’s specific needs to build a knowledge-based platform for sustainable development.
“Through strategic initiatives such as Climate Prosperity Plans, Pakistan can convert climate-related threats into avenues for inclusive economic growth,” said Linulf.
SDPI’s Executive Director, Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri, hailed the ambassador as a “dedicated friend of Pakistan” who transformed Denmark’s climate diplomacy into concrete results.
> “Jakob Linulf brought Pakistan into Denmark’s climate vision—not only as a vulnerable country but as a regional partner in the green energy future,” said Dr. Suleri. He added that the new project would emphasize inclusive participation, especially involving youth, women, academia, civil society, and the private sector.
Minister of State for National Food Security, Malik Rasheed Ahmed Khan, also recognized the ambassador’s vital contributions, noting that Denmark’s cooperation has significantly strengthened Pakistan’s capacity in renewable energy, climate finance, and carbon market development over the past three years.
Under the newly signed agreement, Denmark and SDPI will collaborate to:
* Develop policy roadmaps for green growth
* Promote capacity-building and training programs
* Facilitate inclusive stakeholder dialogues
* Launch a digital knowledge platform showcasing replicable low-carbon development models
* Strengthen climate finance and support carbon market strategies
Romina Khurshid Alam, Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, applauded Denmark’s technical backing in establishing Pakistan’s role as a regional climate leader, affirming that capacity development and technology transfers will remain integral to this partnership.
