DHL Halts High-Value Shipments to U.S. Amid Stricter Customs Rules
Report By Safarti Tarjuman Business Desk
Leading German courier company DHL Express has announced a temporary suspension of shipments from business clients to private individuals in the United States for packages valued over $800, citing recent changes in U.S. customs regulations.
The move, effective April 21, was confirmed via an official statement on DHL’s website. The company clarified that new import rules implemented by U.S. customs authorities now mandate formal clearance procedures for goods exceeding the $800 threshold.
The updated regulations now require senders to provide comprehensive details about the contents, origin, and classification of goods, and in some cases, obtain special import licenses. DHL noted that verifying these details significantly slows the delivery process and increases operational costs.
“Due to new customs clearance obligations in the U.S., shipments from businesses to private individuals exceeding $800 will be temporarily suspended,” DHL stated.
The suspension applies only to B2C (business-to-consumer) shipments. B2B (business-to-business) shipments will continue as normal, although customers may still experience delays due to enhanced inspection protocols.
This development is expected to impact international e-commerce companies and exporters who frequently ship higher-value goods to American consumers.
