Dr. Sania Nishtar Resigns from Senate of Pakistan

PTI Senator and former Federal Minister Dr. Sania Nishtar has officially stepped down from her Senate position after being offered a prestigious role in an international organization focused on child vaccination.

Dr. Nishtar tendered her resignation to the Senate Secretariat, following discussions with PTI leadership. The Secretariat has initiated the standard process, but Senate Chairman has also sought legal advice, as Senate regulations require her to appear personally before the Chairman for final confirmation.

This new appointment based in Geneva will allow Dr. Nishtar to expand her impactful work on child health. Known for her contributions to the COVID-19 response, the Ehsaas Program, and the Benazir Income Support Program, Dr. Nishtar held significant responsibilities under the previous PTI government. Following the PTI’s term, she dedicated much of her time abroad, contributing to global initiatives in various organizations.

Dr. Sania Nishtar was elected to the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021 on a PTI ticket, bringing her expertise to Pakistan’s legislative assembly.
