Egypt Finalizes Gaza Reconstruction Plan, Aims to Secure International Funding

Egypt has announced the completion of a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, signaling intensified efforts to launch the second phase of post-war recovery. The initiative, expected to be formally adopted at the upcoming Arab summit, will focus on rebuilding Gaza while ensuring residents remain in their homeland—contrasting with alternative proposals, including former U.S. President Donald Trump’s relocation vision.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed that Cairo will soon approach international donors to fund the large-scale rebuilding effort. “Once the plan is approved at the Arab summit, we will work with global partners to secure the necessary financial support,” Shoukry stated in a press conference.

The reconstruction blueprint includes rebuilding essential infrastructure, restoring medical facilities, and reviving economic opportunities for Gaza’s population. Egyptian officials emphasized that the program is designed to keep Palestinian residents in place rather than exploring resettlement options, as suggested by Trump in previous discussions.

The upcoming Arab summit will serve as a critical platform for regional leaders to review and endorse the reconstruction plan. Key stakeholders, including Gulf nations and European allies, are expected to play a role in financing and implementing the project.

Egypt has positioned itself as a mediator in Gaza’s post-war recovery, maintaining dialogue with both Palestinian factions and international powers. Cairo’s plan aligns with broader Arab efforts to ensure stability in the region while addressing humanitarian concerns.

Despite the progress, challenges remain in securing widespread support and funding. Tensions between Israel and Hamas continue to pose obstacles, while donor nations may require guarantees regarding how resources are allocated.
