Energy Ministry Offers Relief on Electricity Bills for Winter Season

The Ministry of Energy has announced a new relief package for electricity consumers, offering up to 26 rupees per unit discount for those using additional electricity compared to last year during the winter months.

According to a statement released by the Power Division, consumers who use extra electricity between December 2024 and February 2025 will benefit from a flat rate of 26.07 rupees per unit. Currently, domestic electricity rates range from 37.49 to 52.07 rupees per unit, meaning that the new pricing could result in savings of 11.42 to 26 rupees per unit for households.

Industrial consumers, who currently pay between 31.79 and 41.12 rupees per unit, will see savings ranging from 5.72 to 15.05 rupees per unit under this new package. Commercial consumers, who currently pay between 39.53 and 48.78 rupees per unit, will also benefit from the new price of 26.07 rupees per unit, saving between 13.46 and 22.71 rupees per unit.
