EU Calls for Mutual Commitment to Resolve US Trade Disputes Within 90-Day Deadline
The European Union has stressed the urgent need for “significant joint efforts” to bridge ongoing trade differences with the United States, as a 90-day negotiation window nears its halfway mark.
The call for cooperation followed a high-level meeting in Washington between EU Executive Vice President and Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, U.S. Commerce Secretary, and Trade Representative.
According to a statement from the European Commission, while the EU remains committed to finding constructive solutions, the U.S. side has yet to fully clarify its negotiation stance.
“The EU is approaching these talks with a spirit of collaboration and openness,” said Šefčovič. “But like all negotiations, progress depends on both parties bringing concrete ideas to the table.”
The discussions are part of a 90-day pause on potential tariffs initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump. With the deadline approaching, the EU is urging Washington to define its position on critical issues such as industrial subsidies, digital trade frameworks, and environmental standards.
The European Commission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting European interests while pursuing balanced trade relations. Officials underscored the need for the U.S. to engage meaningfully if a breakthrough is to be achieved within the tight timeline.
