EU Endorses Upcoming Indirect Iran-US Talks in Oman as Diplomatic Opportunity
The European Union has voiced its support for the planned indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, set to take place in Muscat, Oman this Saturday, viewing the dialogue as a constructive step towards resolving nuclear tensions and regional concerns.
During a visit to Algeria, Iranian Foreign Minister Sayyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized the importance of the upcoming talks, describing them as a renewed diplomatic opportunity and a test of the United States’ commitment to dialogue and multilateralism.
Speaking to ISNA, a spokesperson for the EU commented, “We acknowledge the announcement of indirect discussions between Iran and the United States. Any initiative that enhances the possibility of a diplomatic resolution is a positive development, and we fully support it.”
The EU representative further reiterated Europe’s longstanding stance that diplomacy remains the only sustainable solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. “As highlighted recently by the High Representative at the UN Security Council, we emphasize the importance of a multilateral approach and maintain open communication channels with Iran,” the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, in Vienna, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi held talks with EU Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Olof Skoog. Their meeting covered key areas of concern including sanctions relief, nuclear negotiations, and future cooperation. Both sides agreed to maintain continuous dialogue across multiple diplomatic tiers.
