Lahore — Prominent diplomats, scholars, and analysts warned that the escalating Iran–Israel conflict poses a grave threat to global stability, during a high-level discussion organized by the Pak-Russia Friendship Forum and the Russian Centre for Science, Education, and Culture.
Themed around the urgent geopolitical fallout of the war, the event drew a significant audience of academics, civil society leaders, and international relations experts. The gathering was presided over by Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Bukhari, while the chief guest was Dr. Shahid Hassan, Chairman of the Russian Centre and Ambassador for Russian Science and Education.
Speakers collectively emphasized that the Iran–Israel conflict—sparked by U.S.-backed aggression—has the potential to drag the entire world into crisis. They urged the global community to adopt a firm and united stance against state terrorism and imperialist agendas, particularly those advanced by the United States and Israel.
Dr. Iftikhar Bukhari stressed that no foreign power can suppress a nation that has the backing of its people, citing Iran’s revolutionary resilience. He argued that the United States continues to oppose Iran’s rise as a sovereign power because it has refused to bow to Western dominance since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Allama Siddiq Azhar highlighted the enduring struggle against colonialism, asserting that true freedom cannot be achieved until nations like Pakistan decolonize their structures and thinking. He warned that, if unchecked, the conflict could escalate to the use of chemical weapons by the U.S., urging urgent global unity to prevent such catastrophe.
Dr. Shahid Hassan and Dr. Rizwana both praised Russia and China for their principled stance in supporting Iran, contrasting it with what they described as the negative and complicit roles of certain Muslim countries. Dr. Rizwana criticized nations that provided airspace or logistical support to Western military operations against Iran, calling such actions detrimental to Muslim solidarity.
Meher Kashif Younis, Honorary Consul of Kyrgyzstan in Pakistan, underscored the strategic importance of economic stability in facing geopolitical turbulence. He said nations must first secure their economies to survive in today’s unstable international environment.
Veteran journalist and analyst Tahir Malik warned that the conflict had already triggered what he called “the death of civilization.” He cautioned that Pakistan could face an intense oil crisis, hitting ordinary citizens the hardest while benefiting a select elite.
Participants at the forum unanimously called for the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts, promote peace through dialogue, and challenge unilateral military actions that undermine global security.
Concluding the event, Dr. Shahid Hassan thanked all attendees for their thoughtful contributions, reaffirming the commitment of the Russian Centre and the Pak-Russia Friendship Forum to fostering informed dialogue on pressing international issues.
