Islamabad: Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday unveiled a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based application developed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to modernize Pakistan’s immigration system and curb human trafficking networks. The pilot phase will begin at Islamabad International Airport, with plans for a nationwide rollout.

During a visit to FIA Headquarters, Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials, including Additional Directors General, Directors, and Zonal Directors. The session reviewed progress on reforms aimed at enhancing border security, immigration facilitation, and digital transformation.

Officials briefed him on the new AI-powered app, which will help reduce passenger queues, enhance transparency, and improve monitoring of illegal movements.

Calling the initiative a “timely necessity,” the minister said:

“This step will not only help prevent human trafficking but also save passengers from unnecessary delays.”

Directives for Reforms and Capacity Building

The Interior Minister ordered:

  • Immediate release of funds to strengthen FIA’s IT infrastructure.
  • CDA to hand over land for the new FIA Academy without delay.
  • Recruitment on all vacant posts to address manpower shortages.
  • Upgradation of FIA Headquarters facilities to meet modern needs.

Digital Transformation of FIA

FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar informed the minister that:

  • Amendments to the FIA Act have been completed.
  • The agency has transitioned to an e-office system.
  • All FIA notices will now carry QR codes to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Naqvi assured full government support but stressed accountability, saying, “I will ensure resources are provided, but performance is your responsibility.”

Strengthening Border Management

The launch of FIA’s AI-based app represents a significant leap in Pakistan’s digital governance, aimed at smarter border management, curbing human trafficking, and streamlining immigration processes for millions of travelers.
