Former Kuwaiti MP Saleh Al-Mulla Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

Kuwait’s Criminal Court has sentenced former Member of Parliament Saleh Al-Mulla to two years of hard labor on charges related to undermining national security, local sources confirmed.

The case stems from a tweet posted on his X account in May 2024, which prosecutors argued challenged the authority of the Emir and constituted misuse of communication platforms. Al-Mulla was released on bail of 1,000 dinars in January after initial investigations by the Public Prosecution.

The former lawmaker has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that his statements were within his right to free expression. His legal team is expected to appeal the verdict in the coming days.
