Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol officially departed the presidential residence on Friday, closing a turbulent chapter in the nation’s modern political history after his removal from office.

The former president has relocated with his wife and several pets — including more than ten cats and dogs — to a high-rise apartment in Seoul. Local reports say nearly 280 police personnel have been stationed nearby, with Yoon continuing to receive a full-time security detail of around 50 officers.

Yoon returned to his central Seoul in private home. Supporters lined the streets, waving national flags and expressing their emotions as the ex-leader briefly greeted them outside his new residence. It marked his first public appearance since being released from custody on March 8.

Wearing a red cap with the phrase “Make Korea Great Again,” reportedly gifted by a loyal follower, Yoon released a written message through his legal team. “I return to life as an ordinary citizen and will seek a new direction for the nation and its people,” he said.
