FSB Arrests Anti-War Journalist Sasha Alexandrova on Terrorism Charges
Russian authorities have reportedly arrested Sasha Alexandrova, a prominent anti-war journalist, on charges related to terrorist propaganda, according to media sources in the republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Alexandrova, who previously worked for several regional media outlets before launching her own news platform, left Russia following Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. She later returned to her home region in 2024, where observers noted a shift in her anti-war rhetoric, likely in response to Russia’s strict wartime censorship laws.
According to Vesti Yakutia, agents from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested Alexandrova on March 21. She now faces serious criminal charges, including publicly calling for terrorism, justifying terrorism, and spreading terrorist propaganda.
The exiled independent outlet Govorit NeMoskva reported—without citing sources—that Alexandrova has been placed in pre-trial detention. However, there has been no official confirmation of her arrest, and independent verification remains unavailable at this time.
The case reflects the intensifying crackdown on dissent in Russia, where journalists, activists, and critics of the Ukraine war continue to face harsh legal consequences under the country’s sweeping anti-terrorism and censorship laws.
