The G7 nations have expressed grave concern over the escalating violence in the Middle East, highlighting its severe impact on regional stability and the lives of civilians caught in the conflict.
Foreign ministers from the G7 nations—comprising the United States, Germany, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Japan—held an informal meeting in New York during the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
Italy, currently holding the G7 presidency, issued a statement following the meeting, noting, “G7 members are deeply alarmed by the growing violence in the Middle East, stretching from the Gaza Strip to the Israel-Lebanon Blue Line. This unrest threatens regional stability and the well-being of civilians affected by the ongoing clashes. The actions and reactions are fueling a dangerous spiral of violence, potentially pushing the Middle East toward catastrophic outcomes.”
The statement called for an immediate halt to the hostilities, stressing that continued tensions in the region would not benefit any nation.
In relation to ceasefire efforts, the G7 reaffirmed its full support for mediation initiatives led by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, aimed at resolving the conflict between the warring factions in Gaza.
