BERLIN — Germany, France, and the United Kingdom have announced their readiness to launch immediate nuclear talks with Iran in a bid to halt the growing conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul confirmed on Saturday.
Speaking during a regional diplomatic visit, Wadephul told German broadcaster ARD that the trip aims to defuse escalating hostilities following Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and Iran’s retaliatory missile barrage.
Wadephul criticized Tehran’s past reluctance to engage in constructive dialogue but expressed hope that the new offer would be accepted. The joint initiative by the European trio—known collectively as the E3—is seen as a vital diplomatic effort to calm the situation following Israel’s Operation Rising Lion and Iran’s subsequent Operation True Promise 3.
The Israeli offensive targeted Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, while Iran responded with a wave of ballistic missiles against Israeli territory, raising global alarm over the potential for a broader regional war.
Currently visiting Oman, Wadephul said international efforts must now focus on applying pressure to both sides. He emphasized that a peaceful resolution could only be reached if Iran and Israel were urged by the global community to halt further aggression.
When asked about regime change in Iran, Wadephul stated it was not the intention of Israel to bring down the government in Tehran, underlining the importance of stabilizing rather than destabilizing the region.
