Hamas Clarifies Musa Abu Marzouk’s Statement Amid Misrepresentation Claims
Hamas has stated that its senior leader, Musa Abu Marzouk, has been misquoted and his remarks taken out of context. The organization reaffirmed that the October 7 attack remains a legitimate act of resistance against Israeli occupation. Hamas emphasized that Abu Marzouk’s statements in a recent interview do not reflect the group’s official stance.
In an interview with The New York Times, Abu Marzouk reportedly mentioned that had he known about the scale of destruction in Gaza following the attack, he would have opposed it. Hamas, however, clarified that he fully supports the operation and considers it a justified response to Israel’s war crimes.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem reinforced that Abu Marzouk’s remarks do not represent the organization’s position. He stressed that Hamas remains committed to armed resistance and will not negotiate its disarmament as long as Israeli occupation continues.
The October 7 attack resulted in 1,215 Israeli casualties, including hostages who died in captivity. In response, Israeli military actions in Gaza have led to at least 48,319 Palestinian deaths, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The United Nations has verified these figures as credible.
The conflict has displaced over two million people in Gaza, leading to severe shortages of food, water, and medical aid. International organizations continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and increased humanitarian assistance.
Abu Marzouk also indicated that Hamas is open to discussions regarding the future of its weapons in Gaza. However, this remains a key point of contention in negotiations with Israel, with senior Hamas officials rejecting any possibility of disarmament. The organization maintains that its resistance will continue until Israeli occupation ends.
