Gaza City – Hamas has strongly condemned Israel’s plan to relocate residents of Gaza City, describing it as a “new wave of genocide and displacement” targeting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The Palestinian group dismissed Israel’s preparations to deploy tents and temporary shelters in southern Gaza as a “blatant deception” designed to mask an upcoming military assault.
Earlier this month, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it intends to launch a fresh offensive to seize control of northern Gaza City, the enclave’s largest and most densely populated urban center. To facilitate the operation, the IDF announced it would begin providing tents and other aid materials starting Sunday to move civilians out of what it calls “combat zones” and into safer areas in the south.
Hamas, however, argued in a statement that the initiative is not humanitarian but rather an attempt to “cover up a brutal crime that the occupation forces are preparing to execute.”
The relocation plan has triggered international concern over the fate of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents, many of whom have already endured months of war, displacement, and humanitarian crisis.
Domestically, the move has also drawn backlash inside Israel, where families of hostages held by Hamas are intensifying pressure on the government. Over the weekend, relatives launched a nationwide strike, blocking major roads and urging leaders to prioritize a negotiated deal for the hostages’ release instead of prolonging the conflict.
As the standoff escalates, global observers warn that another large-scale offensive in Gaza could deepen the humanitarian disaster and further complicate efforts to secure peace.
