Hamas Rejoins Gaza Ceasefire Talks as Israel Launches New Ground Offensive
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Hamas has officially confirmed its participation in renewed ceasefire negotiations, just hours after Israel launched a fresh ground offensive in Gaza. The talks are being mediated by Qatar and aim to halt the rapidly escalating violence in the region.
The Israeli military began a major operation, dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots,” targeting Hamas positions in central and southern Gaza. According to local health officials, more than 100 Palestinians have been killed in the latest wave of attacks over the past 24 hours. The operation follows weeks of aerial bombardment and a complete blockade that has devastated Gaza’s infrastructure and health services.
Hamas representatives say they have entered the ceasefire discussions without preconditions, citing urgent humanitarian concerns. Gaza’s population is suffering from severe shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies due to the ongoing siege. The group has stressed the need for a long-term solution to prevent further civilian suffering.
Meanwhile, regional pressure is mounting for an end to the conflict. At the Arab League summit in Baghdad, leaders demanded an immediate and permanent ceasefire and called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Iraq announced a $40 million aid package for Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of reconstruction and peace efforts.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently concluded a diplomatic tour in the Middle East, securing a ceasefire deal in Yemen and facilitating the release of an American hostage held by Hamas. However, his approach has sparked criticism for excluding Israeli input in key negotiations.
