Gaza — The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, warning of intense resistance and calling the move a grave escalation that could amount to a war crime against the nearly two million Palestinians living in the enclave.
In a statement, Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of pursuing “ethnic cleansing” while ignoring the plight of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. The group argued that the planned military takeover underscores why Israel recently withdrew from ceasefire talks, which they claim were on the verge of producing a deal for both a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
Hamas stressed that any attempt at occupation would face “heavy resistance” and reaffirmed its readiness to engage with Qatari and Egyptian mediators to secure a comprehensive agreement — including the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for an end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The group also placed blame on the United States, saying Washington shares full responsibility for the crisis due to its continued political and military backing of Israel.
