Beirut, Lebanon — Hezbollah’s deputy chief Naim Qassem has firmly rejected the Lebanese government’s recently adopted plan to disarm all non-state armed groups, declaring that his movement will never surrender its weapons, which he described as essential for protecting Lebanon against Israel.
In a televised speech on Monday, Qassem warned, “Those who want to strip us of our weapons want to strip us of our soul, and the world will see our wrath.”
The Lebanese cabinet has approved a strategy aimed at consolidating state authority by dismantling all armed groups operating outside government control. The plan specifically targets Hezbollah, the most powerful non-state actor in Lebanon.
However, Qassem dismissed the initiative, stressing that Israel must first implement the US-brokered ceasefire deal reached in November 2024 before any talks on a national defense framework can begin.
The Hezbollah leader accused Israel of continuing to occupy five contested points along Lebanon’s southern border, claiming that the resistance movement is the only force capable of confronting Israeli ambitions.
“This confrontation will continue,” Qassem vowed, reaffirming Hezbollah’s position that its arsenal is non-negotiable as long as Israel maintains its presence inside Lebanese territory.
Qassem also accused the Lebanese government of failing to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, insisting that Hezbollah’s weapons serve as a deterrent against further aggression. The group maintains that disarmament would leave Lebanon vulnerable and undermine its national defense.
