Imran Khan and KP CM Face Terrorism Charges Amid PTI Protests in Rawalpindi

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur have been charged with terrorism in connection with violent protests in Rawalpindi. The case, filed at New Town police station by Sub-Inspector Umar Siddique, includes serious allegations such as interference with government operations, rioting, and a petrol bomb attack on a government vehicle.

The First Information Report (FIR) identifies not only Khan and Gandapur but also 45 other PTI leaders and activists, indicating a widespread crackdown following the unrest. The report claims the accused obstructed public pathways by igniting tires and causing public disorder, resulting in violent confrontations with police.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of five individuals on-site, identified as Khalil, Imran, Sadaqat, Yasin, and Tahir, with one suspect reportedly found carrying a petrol bomb.

In a broader response, the Rawalpindi police have initiated cases against PTI leaders across four police stations: City, Waris Khan, New Town, and RA Bazar. More than 100 individuals, including notable figures like MPA Asad Abbas and Ijaz Khan, are now facing multiple charges, including terrorism, attempted murder, and public disturbance.

According to the FIR, PTI supporters allegedly engaged in violent confrontations with law enforcement, throwing stones and attacking police vehicles with iron rods. Reports indicate significant damage to police property, alongside injuries to several officers, one of whom suffered severe injuries from glass shrapnel.

The FIR further claims that some demonstrators seized firearms from police and discharged them into the air, inciting panic among bystanders.

Law enforcement agencies have committed to tracking down additional suspects, intensifying their operations in the wake of the clashes that erupted during PTI protests at Liaquat Bagh, which left both protesters and police personnel injured.
